Bottom and top views of the Realspace 1/144 N1 Soviet Moon rocket. Shot through a polarized lens on a sunny afternoon, the gray and white model takes on a greenish tint seen in many photos of the real thing. The model is solid resin with photo-etch interstage pieces. It weighs a ton. I painted it gray and white in the pattern of the first N1 to be flown. |

The N1 was similar in size to the Saturn V. With its 30 first stage engines firing it produced more thrust at liftoff than Saturn V, but due to shortcomings in Soviet technology could not lift the same mass. In the four flights made by the N1 it never made it to first stage cutoff before exploding. With the Gibbous Moon hanging in the clear afternoon sky I couldn't pass up placing N1 and its intended target in the same frame |
